DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Pakistani cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan following incidents during the Asia Cup clash against India. Both players were charged with breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
Fast bowler Haris Rauf was fined 20% of his match fee and also received an official warning for making a “0-6” gesture during the match. The ICC stated that his actions fell under Level One offences, which encompass minor breaches but still carry financial penalties.
Batsman Sahibzada Farhan avoided a fine but was officially warned for his unusual celebration after scoring a half-century. Farhan waved his bat like a gun, which the ICC deemed inappropriate under its code. Match referee Richie Richardson reviewed the incidents and announced the penalties.
According to ICC regulations, Level One offences generally result in fines and warnings rather than suspensions. However, repeated violations can lead to stricter punishments.
The disciplinary actions highlight the ICC’s strict stance on player behavior, especially during high-profile matches like the Asia Cup. Cricket experts noted that such celebrations and gestures, while often intended as harmless expressions of passion, are closely monitored by officials to ensure the game maintains its spirit.
Despite the sanctions, both Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan remain available for selection in Pakistan’s upcoming matches. Team management has yet to issue an official statement, but sources said the players have accepted the verdict and are focused on moving forward in the tournament.
