Squanch Games’ much-anticipated sequel, High on Life 2, launched on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on February 13, 2026, promising a wild ride filled with irreverent humour, bizarre sci-fi antics, and sentient alien weapons.

The game picks up five years after the original, following the nameless bounty hunter, now a reluctant celebrity.

Chaos ensues when the protagonist’s sister joins a resistance group convinced that humanity remains under threat from alien forces, this time facing a shadowy pharmaceutical corporation as the principal antagonist. Players are given full licence to wreak havoc across an approximately 10-hour campaign, blending frenetic combat with absurd comedic moments.

The gameplay doubles down on the franchise’s signature quirkiness. Every weapon is a living, talking alien with its own personality, quirks, and occasionally marital drama, offering both combat advantages and puzzle-solving abilities.

The addition of a skateboard dramatically alters mobility, enabling players to grind rails, wall-ride, and zip through arenas, infusing fights with kinetic energy reminiscent of classic skateboarding titles.

Missions themselves are unpredictable and inventive, ranging from murder mysteries to exploring planets devoted entirely to conventions, with numerous hidden collectibles and witty meta references scattered throughout the universe.

Humour remains at the game’s heart, leaning heavily on meta commentary, slapstick, and absurdist gags, ensuring that even amidst chaotic firefights, players encounter consistently entertaining scenarios.

Returning favourites like Gus the shotgun-lizard and new alien companions enhance the narrative, while clever nods to video games, memes, and pop culture deepen the charm.

This creativity, combined with the game’s willingness to embrace its own absurdity, is what makes High on Life 2 uniquely memorable.

Despite these strengths, technical issues persist. Frequent bugs, including infinite death loops during boss fights, characters getting stuck in environments, and performance dips, particularly on Xbox Series X, occasionally disrupt immersion.

Combat can feel inconsistent as enemies sometimes fail to respond realistically, and juggling movement, weapon switching, and environmental hazards can make encounters chaotic and difficult to read.

Nevertheless, the game rewards exploration, curiosity, and patience, with inventive missions, hidden collectibles, and quirky surprises ensuring that players who persevere are richly rewarded.

Overall, High on Life 2 is a riotous, imaginative adventure that thrives on creativity and absurdity, delivering moments of genuine hilarity and offbeat gameplay.

While technical glitches and uneven combat may frustrate some players, the game’s inventive design, memorable alien companions, and bold humour make it a standout sequel in the first-person shooter genre.

Fans willing to embrace chaos and indulge in the game’s eccentricities will find a deeply entertaining and singularly unique experience.
