Galle: Veteran Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim has etched his name into the record books, surpassing former Pakistan captain Younis Khan's Test milestone. This significant achievement came during the ongoing first Test match against host nation Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium.
Mushfiqur Rahim, displaying remarkable resilience, scored his 12th Test century. In doing so, he became the oldest non-opening batter to score a Test century on Sri Lankan soil. This feat saw him eclipse Younis Khan's record, which was set in 2015 when the Pakistani great scored a Test century against Sri Lanka at the age of 37 years and 216 days. Mushfiqur achieved his latest century at a seasoned age of 38 years and 39 days in Sri Lanka.
At the close of play on the second day of the Galle Test against the hosts, Bangladesh posted a commanding total of 484 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim was a standout performer, crafting an impressive innings of 163 runs. He was ably supported by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who contributed a valuable 148 runs, while Litton Das also played a significant knock of 90 runs.
