ISLAMABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department has released revenue collection statistics for the federal capital.
According to Director Excise Bilal Azam, Islamabad’s Excise Department has set a new record in tax collection.
According to Director Excise Bilal Azam, the department collected Rs. 21.34 billion in taxes during the fiscal year 2024–25, compared to Rs. 17.23 billion in 2023–24.
This marks an increase of Rs. 4.11 billion over the previous year. The Director added that tax collection has grown severalfold over the past five years, reflecting improved efficiency and enforcement measures.
Bilal Azam said that the department’s success is the result of policies introduced under the guidance of Chief Commissioner Islamabad and the administrative support of Deputy Commissioner.
The Excise Director also noted that tax collection has seen significant growth over the past five years, crediting this rise to the introduction of digital solutions and citizen-focused services.
He said the department’s focus on public convenience played a central role in boosting collections. Initiatives such as home-based vehicle registration services and the introduction of an online system for token tax payments enabled more citizens to fulfill their tax responsibilities with ease.
Earlier, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), under the direction of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, has for the first time in Pakistan’s history introduced the Artificial Intelligence based Custom Clearance and Risk Management System (RMS).
During a meeting chaired by the prime minister held here to review the ongoing reforms measures by the FBR, it was informed that under this new system, estimation of cost and nature of goods during import and export will be conducted by Artificial Intelligence and BOTs.
The new risk management system, based on modern technology, will continuously improve through automation using machine learning, along with the movement of goods, the meeting was told.
