Cairo: During the ongoing Gaza ceasefire talks in Egypt, Hamas has presented its key demands, saying that no agreement is possible without a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.
Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum outlined six main demands. The first and most important is a permanent ceasefire to ensure peace and safety for the Palestinian people.
The second demand calls for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, while the third emphasizes the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to provide necessities to civilians.
The fourth demand seeks permission for displaced Palestinians to return to their homes, and the fifth focuses on the immediate reconstruction of Gaza under the supervision of a Palestinian national technical body.
The sixth and final demand involves a fair exchange of prisoners, which Hamas says should be the foundation of any future agreement.
Fawzi Barhoum accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of trying to sabotage the negotiations but stressed that Israel will never achieve victory in Gaza.
Mediated by Egypt, the ongoing talks are being closely watched by the international community. Observers believe some progress could soon be made on the issues of prisoner exchange and humanitarian aid.
