Hamas has criticized Israel for ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement, stating that the truce cannot advance while Israeli forces persist in their breaches.
Hamas official Husam Badran urged mediators to escalate pressure on Israel to honor its commitments and fully implement the terms of the agreement. "The next phase cannot begin as long as the occupation continues its violations and avoids its responsibilities," Badran emphasized, calling for urgent action to ensure compliance.
The ceasefire, initiated on October 10, primarily aimed at exchanging captives held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners in Israel and included a partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. However, critical issues such as Gaza’s future governance, the deployment of an international stabilisation force, and the formation of a "board of peace" remain unresolved.
Despite diplomatic efforts, tensions persist as Israeli military operations continue, resulting in the deaths of at least 377 Palestinians and injuries to 987, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The international community and Palestinian stakeholders express growing frustration over the continued violence.
A U.S. official revealed that negotiations on the next phase of the ceasefire are making progress, with plans underway for the deployment of an international stabilisation force as early as 2026. However, significant obstacles remain before a comprehensive resolution can be achieved.
Gaza authorities report at least 738 violations since the ceasefire took effect in October, undermining efforts toward lasting peace.
