Google Maps for Android recently underwent a major transformation, but its rollout faced some hiccups before resuming with enhancements.
The update introduces a new user interface (UI) design, replacing full-screen views with sheets that maintain background context.
One notable change is the revamped satellite view, which offers clearer navigation within the app. Borrowing from Apple Maps, Google Maps now emphasizes the map layer throughout the program.
Users can easily close sheets by tapping the close button in the top-right corner alongside the share button, with noticeably rounder corners.
An improvement from the initial version is the elimination of double-backed sheets, creating a cleaner interface with a depth illusion. This adjustment allows more information to be displayed on each screen, enhancing the user experience.
A significant aspect of the update is the streamlined search process. The search interface now features only two fields for start location and destination, with transportation options conveniently relocated to the bottom for easier access.
Although this revamped version (11.127.x on Android) is still undergoing testing and has not been widely implemented, it signifies Google's commitment to enhancing user interaction.
This update is server-side, meaning it's gradually rolling out and may only be visible to a limited number of users as of now. Keep an eye out for these changes as they continue to evolve and improve the Google Maps experience for all users.
