Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah distributed ‘solar home systems’ to residents of Karachi during a ceremony on Wednesday.
He described the solar energy initiative as a crucial step in partnership with the World Bank.
According to the CM, 200,000 low-income households are set to receive solar home systems, with the distribution expected to be completed by July 2025.
“Our goal is to distribute 400 solar kits per week in each district,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of green energy, CM Shah emphasized its role in combating climate change. He noted that solar plants would help provide 300 free units of solar electricity.
He also mentioned that during the president’s recent visit to China, multiple agreements were signed with Chinese companies for wind and solar hybrid projects.
Additionally, he announced that 656 schools and 24 libraries are being transitioned to solar power, along with various government buildings across Sindh.
The program aims to reduce electricity costs for low-income families and is part of the Sindh Solar Energy Project. Each solar system includes a solar panel, fan, three bulbs, battery backup, and a mobile charger.
