ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized strict legal action against those involved in disrupting law and order during recent sit-ins, damaging public property, and harming law enforcement personnel.
Chairing a meeting of the task force investigating the riots during the November 24 sit-in, the Prime Minister discussed measures to ensure justice.
The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Economic Affairs Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Advisor Rana Sanaullah, and other senior officials.
The briefing revealed that evidence from the incident, including weapons, cartridges, and shell casings, has been collected and sent for forensic analysis. Efforts to identify the rioters through on-site evidence are progressing rapidly, with plans to bring all identified individuals before the courts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need for weekly reviews of the legal proceedings against those spreading chaos. He reiterated that those responsible for violating the law, damaging public assets, and endangering the lives of law enforcement personnel would face severe penalties.
The Prime Minister also expressed regret over the rioters’ actions during the visit of the Belarusian President to Islamabad, calling it a source of embarrassment for Pakistan.
He announced the formation of a modern anti-riot force in line with global standards to prevent such incidents in the future.
Additionally, PM Sharif highlighted plans to enhance Islamabad’s Safe City Project by incorporating a forensic lab to meet international standards, pledging the provision of all necessary resources for its development.
