KARACHI: At least five people lost their lives in separate traffic accidents across Karachi within a few hours, highlighting the growing danger of unchecked heavy traffic in the city.
In a tragic incident late at night near the Matric Board Office, a speeding water tanker rammed into a motorcycle, killing two young friends on the spot.
The victims, identified as 20-year-old Zubair and 18-year-old Ayaan, were residents of Orangi Town and had left home shortly before the accident to get dinner. Their bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital(ASH) for legal formalities.
The two had been friends since childhood, and their sudden death has devastated their families and community.
Enraged by the incident, locals attempted to set the water tanker on fire. However, police intervened in time, took control of the situation, and seized the vehicle along with arresting the driver.
The grieving families have called on the government to implement strict laws against reckless heavy traffic, particularly water tankers, to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
In the second incident, a speeding unidentified vehicle ran over a pedestrian near Naheed Super Store on Tariq Road. The victim, identified as 55-year-old Tariq, died on the spot.
In a similar incident near the Airport Metro area, an 80-year-old man named Amruddin was fatally hit by an unknown vehicle while crossing the road. His body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities.
Meanwhile, in Baldia Town on Hub River Road, a motorcyclist—identified as police constable Asif—was killed in a traffic accident.
The deceased was posted at Saeedabad Police Station and was returning home after completing his duty when the tragedy occurred.
These incidents have once again raised serious concerns about road safety and the unchecked movement of speeding vehicles in the city.
