‘One Battle’ and ‘Hamnet’ claim top trophies at Golden Globes Awards

One Battle and Hamnet won biggest awards at the Golden Globes.

Dark comedy One Battle After Another and the emotional drama Hamnet won the biggest awards at the Golden Globes, marking one of the first major events of Hollywood’s annual awards season.

One Battle After Another was named Best Movie in the Musical or Comedy category and picked up four awards in total, while Hamnet secured the Best Movie Drama prize.

Timothée Chalamet won one of the night’s toughest awards, taking Best Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role as a professional table tennis player in Marty Supreme. He beat several high-profile nominees, including Leonardo DiCaprio from One Battle After Another and George Clooney for Jay Kelly. Speaking on stage, Chalamet praised his fellow nominees and admitted that losing in past years made this win feel even more special.

The Golden Globes, voted on by more than 300 entertainment journalists, are among the first major awards of the 2026 season, leading up to the Academy Awards in March. While Globe voters do not vote for the Oscars, winning a Globe often helps boost a film’s chances during awards season.

One Battle After Another, produced by Warner Bros. Discovery, tells the story of a group of former revolutionaries and is considered a strong contender for Best Picture at the Oscars. At the Globes, Paul Thomas Anderson won Best Director and Best Screenplay for the film, while Teyana Taylor earned the award for Best Supporting Actress.

Hamnet focuses on William Shakespeare and his wife as they cope with the death of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet, an event historians believe influenced Shakespeare to write Hamlet. Irish actress Jessie Buckley won Best Female Actor in a Movie Drama for her role as Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes Hathaway. She highlighted the international nature of the film’s production, calling it a special experience to tell the story of one of history’s most famous figures.
