The Ministry of Hajj has issued important guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims as the Umrah season progresses in Saudi Arabia.
The ministry emphasized the need for physical preparation, particularly foot care, to help pilgrims perform Umrah rituals smoothly at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Authorities advised against walking long distances barefoot and recommended wearing comfortable footwear in non-prayer areas. Pilgrims were also encouraged to rest when tired, as physical readiness and proper rest can prevent exhaustion during the pilgrimage.
The ministry further advised pilgrims to avoid heavy meals and stay hydrated, emphasizing that adequate rest and sufficient fluid intake are crucial for maintaining energy throughout the Umrah rites.
The current Umrah season began in late June, following the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which was attended by around 1.8 million Muslims worldwide. Last year, approximately 13.5 million Muslims performed Umrah, and Saudi Arabia is targeting 15 million pilgrims next year.
To accommodate more pilgrims, Saudi authorities have introduced new facilities, including extending the Umrah visa from 30 to 90 days. Visa holders can now enter the kingdom through all land, air, and sea ports and depart from any airport. Additionally, female pilgrims are no longer required to be accompanied by a male guardian, making the process more accessible.
Pilgrims with various visas, such as personal, visit, or tourism visas, are now eligible to perform Umrah and visit Al Rawda Al Sharifa, the sacred chamber housing the tomb of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Medina’s Prophet’s Mosque. E-appointments are required for these visits. Saudi citizens can also invite friends from abroad to participate in Umrah.
These changes demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s efforts to improve the pilgrimage experience, making it easier and more comfortable for Muslims worldwide to perform Umrah.
