An Israeli airstrike on a school in central Gaza, where displaced people were taking refuge, killed at least 28 civilians, including women and children, on Thursday. Three hospitals in northern Gaza were also ordered to evacuate, putting the lives of patients in danger, according to medics.
The airstrike took place in Deir Al-Balah, where many had sought shelter from fighting elsewhere, as the war has dragged on for more than a year. The Israeli military stated it had conducted a "precise strike on terrorists" operating from a command center inside the school. They accused Hamas of misusing civilian infrastructure, a claim Hamas denies. Medical sources reported that 54 others were injured in the strike.
Meanwhile, in northern Gaza, the Israeli army continues its offensive in Jabalia and nearby areas, with Palestinian officials reporting at least 130 deaths in the operation so far. Israel says the offensive is aimed at stopping Hamas from regrouping.
In addition, Israeli forces have urged the evacuation of over 400,000 people trapped in a conflict zone, according to U.N. estimates. Hospitals in the north—Indonesian, Al-Awda, and Kamal Adwan—were given 24 hours to evacuate, with medics warning that critically injured patients, especially children, face grave risks. Israel claims Hamas has hidden military facilities inside hospitals, though Hamas denies this. Kamal Adwan Hospital's director, Hussam Abu Safiya, voiced concerns about running out of fuel and the impact on critically injured patients.
