The government of Pakistan has decided to move the country’s economy into the digital age. All ministries have been told to start working on this shift. The decision was made during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister asked officials to quickly set up a special group to carry out and keep track of the digitization process. He said that improving the economy and bringing the informal, unrecorded part of it into the formal system is an important goal of the government’s reform plans.
He also mentioned that the changes being made are being handled in a well-organized and institutional way so they can last long and make a real difference.
He praised the digital wallet system that was used to deliver the Ramadan package and said it should be used in more areas. During the meeting, officials shared that a new app has been launched in Islamabad, giving people access to over 150 government services.
They also shared that digital payments through the Raast system have gone up a lot, and the government, along with the State Bank, is working to make it easier for people to use digital payments in their daily lives.
The government is making sure digital payments are collected properly and is encouraging both buyers and businesses to go cashless. They are also working to fully digitize all payments, including salaries and bills, across federal departments.
