Saudi Arabia has implemented an SR 500 fine for individuals who fail to secure their resident identification within 90 days of entering the kingdom.
The resident identification card is now a mandatory requirement for expatriates in Saudi Arabia, and the process involves undergoing a compulsory medical test, completing the registration via the Absher or Muqeem portal, and paying the associated fees, as per the General Directorate of Passports.
The country, with a population of approximately 32.2 million, has a significant foreign workforce, comprising around 41.5% of the total population, based on recent census data.
To facilitate expatriates, Saudi authorities have introduced new measures, allowing those with exit or re-entry visas to return until the last day of their valid visas. Furthermore, exit/re-entry visa holders can electronically extend their visas while abroad by paying the required fees through Absher or Muqeem.
Requirements for exit/re-entry visas include a valid passport for at least 90 days. The General Directorate of Passports has emphasized the mandatory registration of fingerprints for expatriates and their family members aged six and older, as this is essential for accessing its services.
These initiatives reflect Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to streamline processes for expatriates and ensure compliance with administrative procedures.
