The federal cabinet has approved the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) rules to take decisive action against individuals involved in cybercrime, including those responsible for online harassment, spreading rumors, and conducting propaganda on social media.

Under the new regulations, individuals found guilty of cybercrimes, particularly those targeting state institutions or public figures, could face prison sentences ranging from 5 to 15 years, along with heavy fines.

After 11 months of preparation, the NCCIA is now fully operational and has the authority to collaborate with international organizations to combat cybercrime.

Established by the caretaker government in December 2023, the NCCIA replaces the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Cybercrime Wing, with its officers serving in the new agency for one year.
