ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan's Practice and Procedure Committee has constituted a larger bench to hear a review petition on the interpretation of Article 63-A of the Constitution.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, with newly appointed member Justice Aminud Din Khan in attendance. However, Senior Puisne Judge Syed Mansoor Ali Shah was absent.
Sources revealed that Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah had raised concerns regarding the reconstitution of the committee under a new ordinance that amended the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023.
Despite this, the committee formed a larger bench, headed by CJP Qazi Faez Isa, to review the Article 63-A interpretation. The five-member bench includes Justices Munib Akhtar, Aminud Din Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel.
In addition, a separate larger bench was established to hear the audio leaks commission case. This bench will be led by Senior Puisne Judge Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, along with Justices Yahya Afridi, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Musarrat Hilali. The Supreme Court Registrar stated that the hearing date would be announced later.
Earlier, on September 20, CJP Qazi Faez Isa appointed Justice Aminud Din Khan as the third member of the Supreme Court’s Practice and Procedure Committee, replacing Justice Munib Akhtar. This committee, tasked with forming benches and scheduling cases under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, now consists of CJP Qazi Faez Isa as head, with Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Aminud Din Khan as members. This change followed the enactment of an ordinance amending the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023.
