The Punjab government’s relief package, offering a Rs14 per unit subsidy on electricity bills, has caused confusion as three-phase meter holders did not receive the subsidy in their August 2024 bills.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced this relief for electricity consumers in Punjab and Islamabad amid rising power tariffs. The subsidy is meant for citizens consuming less than 500 units of electricity and applies to August and September 2024 bills.
However, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) sources revealed that the subsidy was only provided to those with single-phase meters. The ministry has yet to instruct Lesco to extend the relief to three-phase meter holders, resulting in their exclusion from the August subsidy.
Despite visiting Lesco offices to seek clarification, three-phase meter owners were informed that the company cannot provide the subsidy without ministry approval.
