In a major step toward promoting healthier public spaces, the Punjab government has officially banned smoking and the sale of tobacco products in all public parks and gardens across the province.
The new directive, issued by the Housing and Public Health Engineering Department, applies to all areas managed by the Parks and Horticulture Authorities (PHAs). This includes a complete ban on cigarettes, vapes, and other tobacco products, both for personal use and sale.
To ensure public awareness and enforcement, authorities have been instructed to install no-smoking signs at key locations—especially at park entrances and exits. In addition, authorities will issue notices to canteens and vendors, warning them not to sell tobacco products within or near park premises.
Park staff and security teams will actively monitor the ban and ensure visitors follow the new rules.
Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal said the initiative protects children and families from secondhand smoke and promotes a cleaner, safer environment.
“We must provide safe and healthy recreational spaces for families, sports lovers, and nature enthusiasts,” Mengal said. He added that this is part of a broader effort, under the guidance of the Punjab Chief Minister, to make parks across the province more family-friendly, sustainable, and attractive.
The smoke-free policy reflects a growing push across the country to create public spaces that support well-being and discourage harmful habits—starting with where we play, walk, and relax.
