ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have decided to jointly draft the constitutional amendment. This important development emerged during the meeting between the two parties, sources said.
The PTI delegation consisting of Salman Akram Raja and Akhunzada Hussain whereas Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza met JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence, here on Thursday.
The leadership of the both parties discussed the constitutional amendment, the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act as well as the overall political situation.
They said that the both parties agreed that Barrister Salman Akram Raja from the PTI and Senator Murtaza Kamran from the JUI-F will jointly draft the constitutional amendment.
Later, talking to media after the meeting, Barrister Salman Akram Raja said that their meeting remained good with JUI-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman and they inquired after him.
He said that there were rumours that the Maulana had accepted the government's suggestion, adding that it was not so and the JUI-F had stood by its stance as ever before.
Raja maintained that Maulana Fazl had foiled the government's bid to reshape the constitution and he was very clear in his point of view.
He said that if the JUI-F would take any such steps to support the government's unconstitutional amendments so its name would be written in black words. Raja said that a former prime minister could not be tried in a military court, adding it was not acceptable that a controlled constitutional court could be established in the country.
He vowed that they would fight to maintain the writ of the constitution and keep it in its real shape, adding that for the purpose, Maulana Fazlur Rehman would be with them.
