ISLAMABAD: Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), to discuss proposed constitutional amendments.
After the meeting, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja informed the media that Maulana Fazlur Rehman remains steadfast in his "historical" stance against the amendments.
He hinted that positive developments for the nation could be expected soon, praising the JUI-F chief for not backing the amendments, which he believes safeguarded the country.
When asked about the PTI lawmakers' whereabouts ahead of the potential parliamentary session on the amendments, Raja assured that all members were safe and in contact with the party.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan described the meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman as "productive." He stated that PTI would first review the government's proposed amendments before entering into any discussions.
He emphasized the party's unity in standing for the nation, parliament, and an independent judiciary, while asserting their right to peaceful protest, describing their recent demonstration as peaceful.
Previously, Maulana Fazlur Rehman had voiced strong opposition to the amendments, stating they were designed to "protect" the government.
During a press conference in Multan, he pledged to prevent any misguided decisions or legislation in parliament.
He expressed concerns about any amendments that could compromise human rights or weaken the judiciary.
Rehman reiterated that the JUI-F does not support the government's draft and raised objections about the possible creation of a constitutional court, suspecting it could be driven by "malicious intent."
