Pakistan has extended its airspace restrictions for Indian airlines for another month, keeping the ban in place until August 23.
The Pakistan Airport Authority issued a fresh Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), confirming that Indian-registered aircraft are still not allowed to fly over Pakistani airspace. This includes all types of flights, such as overflights and transit.
These restrictions were first put in place on April 23 and have been continuously renewed since then. The authority has made it clear that the ban will stay in effect until further notice and applies to all aircraft registered in India, without any exceptions.
The ban was initially imposed after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty, a move that came during rising tensions between the two countries following a deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In response to the attack, India carried out strikes in Pakistan, which led to the martyrdom of several Pakistani citizens. Pakistan then responded with counterattacks on India, which resulted in US intervention and eventually a ceasefire.
After the ban was enforced, reports suggested that Indian airlines faced heavy financial losses due to increased fuel costs and the need for stopovers on longer routes.
