ISLAMABAD: The nation is celebrating Eid-ul-Azha today with religious fervour to commemorate the great sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Ismael (AS).
The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for well-being of the Ummah and progress, prosperity and security of the country.
Eid prayers' congregations were held at mosques, Eidgahs and open places in all cities, towns and villages.
Ulema, in their sermons of Eid, highlighted the significance of the philosophy of great sacrifice offered by Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismael (AS).
People are sacrificing animals to act upon the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).
Civic authorities of cities and towns have also made special arrangements for disposal of offals and other solid waste during three days of Eid-ul-Azha.
Muslims in the United States, Japan, Indonesia, and Turkey are also celebrating Eidul Adha on Monday.
On Sunday, Eidul Adha was observed in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and several other Middle Eastern countries.
Large gatherings have took place worldwide for Eid prayers. In Saudi Arabia, significant congregations were held at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid al-Nabawi in Madina.
Over a million people participated in Eid prayers at these two holiest sites of Islam. Similar large gatherings were also held in the UAE today.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, falls on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Zil-Hajj. It is celebrated by Muslims worldwide, occurring 70 days after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting in the Islamic calendar.
