The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that parts of northern Pakistan are likely to see rain with strong winds and thunderstorms next week.
Meanwhile, new data from the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority shows the severe damage caused by recent floods, leaving millions of people in the province still affected.
Rain forecast for northern Pakistan
The Met Office reports that moderately humid winds from the Arabian Sea are moving into northern areas of the country. From September 16 to 19, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive intermittent rainfall, while Kashmir is likely to see rain from September 15 to 19.
Rain and thunderstorms are also forecast for several districts of Punjab and the federal capital Islamabad during this period. On the other hand, most of Sindh will stay hot and dry, although the coastal areas may have partly cloudy weather. Balochistan is also expected to face partly cloudy and humid conditions.
Punjab flood situation worsens
The PDMA’s latest report highlights that more than 4,700 villages have been affected by floods caused by high water levels in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers.
Chenab River: 2,475 villages affected
Sutlej River: 715 villages affected
Ravi River: 1,458 villages affected
Overall, more than 4.574 million people have been impacted by the disaster.

Rescue and relief efforts
Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed confirmed that around 2.516 million people stranded in floodwaters have been moved to safer areas. To support the displaced families, authorities have set up 372 relief camps, 459 medical camps, and 391 veterinary camps in the affected districts.
Along with people, about 2.020 million animals have also been rescued and shifted to secure places. Despite these efforts, the floods have already taken 104 lives in different incidents across the province.
