KARACHI: The Sindh government has launched a double-decker bus service in Karachi to improve public transport facilities. Sindh Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Nasir Shah inaugurated the service, marking a new addition to the city’s mass transit system.
Officials briefed Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on the features of the double-decker buses. He said the route is 22 kilometers long, with fares ranging from Rs80 to Rs120. Initially, the service will operate from Malir to Shahrah-e-Faisal, while transport sources said the route will extend from Model Colony to Zainab Market.
Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the government is working to introduce double-decker buses on all major roads in Karachi. He added that subsidies are being provided on bus fares and that public transport facilities are being enhanced on a daily basis.
Highlighting ongoing developments, he said more than 125,000 passengers travel daily on the People’s Bus Service, while around 65,000 commuters use the Green Line bus service. He also confirmed that work on the Red Line BRT has resumed.
The minister said efforts are underway to further expand transport facilities across Sindh in the coming year to provide affordable and efficient travel options for the public.
