Iran has executed Bahman Choobiasl, described by Iranian authorities as “one of the most important spies for Israel in Iran,” according to the judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency. His hanging marks the 10th execution linked to alleged espionage since the brief but intense 12-day war between Iran, Israel, and the United States in June.
Choobiasl was reportedly convicted of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and accused of working on sensitive telecommunications projects. Authorities allege he attempted to help Mossad breach Iranian data centers and access government databases.
Mizan reported that Choobiasl’s conviction was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court on charges of “corruption on earth,” a broad charge often used in national security cases.
His execution follows that of Babak Shahbazi earlier this month, also accused of spying for Israel. However, human rights activists dispute the government’s narrative, claiming Shahbazi was tortured into confessing after reaching out to Ukraine to volunteer in the war against Russia.
Iran has long accused Israel of running an expansive spy network within its borders and has increasingly cracked down on suspected collaborators. The June conflict has further escalated tensions, with Tehran vowing to eliminate internal threats allegedly linked to foreign intelligence.
International rights groups have expressed concern over the sharp rise in executions, citing lack of due process and allegations of forced confessions.
