ISLAMABAD: British Deputy Foreign Minister Hamish Falconer met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad on Wednesday. The two leaders discussed Pakistan-UK relations, the regional situation, and ways to improve cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Hamish Falconer praised Pakistan’s role in helping ease tensions between the United States and Iran. He said Pakistan, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, played an important role in supporting peace efforts. He also said the recent Iran, US understanding has shown Pakistan as a positive force for global peace.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in several areas. These include counter terrorism, stopping illegal migration, improving institutional links, police training, and tackling fake student visas. They also discussed joint efforts to deal with human trafficking and strengthen security systems.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan is taking strict action against illegal migration and smuggling networks. He added that institutional capacity in the country has improved and ongoing projects are showing positive results. He also said Pakistan remains committed to further strengthening ties with the United Kingdom.
Naqvi also raised concerns about security issues in the region, saying that terrorist groups are active in Afghanistan and its territory should not be used against Pakistan. Several senior officials from both countries were also present in the meeting, including the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott.
In a separate meeting, Mohsin Naqvi met National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to discuss parliamentary affairs, the budget, and related matters. They also talked about other national issues, while Naqvi said efforts are being made to bring back Pakistani citizens jailed in Somalia.
