In yet another intense clash between Pakistan and India, Pakistan suffered a disappointing defeat, triggering a wave of reactions from fans. While many expressed frustration, others stepped in to defend the team, including renowned Pakistani actor Naumaan Ijaz. The high-stakes ICC match in Dubai had built immense anticipation, with a charged crowd and several celebrities cheering for Pakistan. However, as the final ball was bowled and Pakistan’s loss was confirmed, the mood shifted drastically. Fans flooded social media with memes and harsh criticism, targeting specific players and questioning the team’s strategy. Amid the backlash, Naumaan Ijaz took a different approach, urging people to look at the bigger picture. Posting on Instagram, he questioned, “11 players ko zaleel karne se pehle koi yeh bataye ke baaqi idaron aur 26 crore ki awaam ne Pakistan ki izzat barhane ke liye kya kaam kiya hai?” (Before humiliating the 11 [team] players, can anyone tell what the other institutions and a population of 260 million have done to elevate Pakistan’s honour?). His statement sparked mixed reactions. Some agreed, with one user commenting, “You’re speaking the truth! We can’t place the burden of everything solely on cricketers.” Others, however, felt accountability was necessary. One critic argued, “We contribute taxes so they can enjoy a lavish lifestyle. Numerous deserving players never make the cut due to the ‘parchee’ system, while those who do often leave us disappointed.” The debate continues, reflecting how deeply cricket is tied to Pakistan’s national identity.
