PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and police foiled a significant terrorism plot in the Orakzai district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Wednesday.
A CTD spokesman stated that the suspects had been planning terrorist activities in the region, but the timely operation averted a potential disaster. The joint operation led to the seizure of a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives, including rocket launchers, RPGs, hand grenades, and bullets.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to apprehend the culprits and dismantle the terrorist network.
Earlier reports indicated that 124 terrorists were killed and 322 were arrested in the first six months of 2024 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
According to the CTD's report, 1,433 operations were conducted this year, thwarting 55 terrorist attacks, killing 124 terrorists, and arresting 322.
The CTD report also mentioned that a major attack in Peshawar was prevented by arresting two suicide bombers. During the operations, commanders and associates of various terrorist groups, including Mohsin Qadir, Betni Padakye, Tipu Gul, Zarar Group, Sunta, and TTP Gandapur Group, were killed.
