President-elect Donald Trump has achieved a decisive victory in the 2024 US presidential election, surpassing the required 270 electoral votes to secure the White House. With the addition of Arizona’s 11 electoral votes, Trump’s total now stands at 312, according to sources.
In a notable shift, Arizona, which supported Joe Biden in 2020, turned red in the final count, marking a key gain for Trump’s campaign. This victory, alongside a sweep of all seven battleground states, guaranteed Trump’s electoral win. His success included major swing states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin—all of which went Democratic in the previous election.
As results continued to come in from across the country, Trump expanded his lead to cover over half of the 50 states. Critical states like Florida (30 electoral votes), Texas (40), and Pennsylvania (19) significantly boosted his path to victory.
In contrast, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, who aimed to make history as the first female U.S. president, secured 226 electoral votes.
Although Harris won several strongholds, such as California (54 votes), New York (28 votes), and Illinois (19 votes), her campaign was ultimately thwarted by Trump’s success in the contested battlegrounds.
The final count shows Trump winning 31 states, while Harris took 19 states plus the District of Columbia. As the race draws to a close, both campaigns are closely watching remaining mail-in and absentee ballot counts in several states.
