Google's new Pixel 9 series: a closer look

In 2024, Google is preparing to shake up its smartphone lineup by introducing three distinct versions of the upcoming Pixel 9 series, according to reports from 91mobiles.

Earlier renderings, originally credited to OnLeaks, showcased the Pixel 9 Pro and its larger counterpart, the Pixel 9 Pro "XL," but did not reveal the standard Pixel 9. However, new images have now unveiled the design of the Pixel 9.

The return of the "XL" moniker, previously used for larger Pixel models until 2019, marks a shift in Google's strategy. After simplifying its range with the single-sized Pixel 5 and adopting the "Pro" label in 2021, Google seems to be taking a page from Apple's playbook by offering the Pro model in two sizes and reintroducing the XL designation.

The Pixel 9 retains the design aesthetic seen in previous leaks, featuring flat edges instead of the curved design of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, along with increasingly rounded display corners.

As for sizes, the speculated screen sizes for the three models are:

• Pixel 9 Pro XL: 6.5 inches
• Pixel 9 Pro: 6.1 inches
• Pixel 9: 6.03 inches

Notably, the Pixel 9 Pro XL's screen size represents a slight decrease compared to the current Pixel 8 Pro's 6.7-inch screen. This adjustment might address feedback from users who find the 8 Pro too large. Both Pro models are expected to include a triple-camera setup on the back, potentially offering Google's advanced photography features in a more manageable size.

While attention is currently on other devices, such as the Pixel 8A and Pixel Fold 2 expected to debut at Google's I/O keynote in May, speculation about a Pixel 9A suggests the possibility of four models in the next generation
