The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted more intermittent monsoon rains, with isolated heavy showers, for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other regions of Pakistan on Sunday night and Monday.
Monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are penetrating the upper parts of Pakistan at lower tropospheric levels and are expected to reach central areas of the country tonight. Additionally, a westerly wave is affecting the upper regions.
Under these conditions, further monsoon rains are anticipated in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Punjab, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northeast Balochistan, Southeast and Upper Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday night and Monday, with occasional breaks.
Isolated heavy downpours are likely in Kashmir, Upper Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this period. Coastal areas of Sindh can expect partly cloudy weather with light rain.
The heavy rains could lead to flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in areas including Kohat, Karak, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Dir, Swat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Talagang, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Hafizabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir.
Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Faisalabad. Landslides may also disrupt traffic in vulnerable hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir.
The maximum temperature in Islamabad is expected to range between 32-34°C on Monday and 31-33°C on Tuesday. Rawalpindi's maximum temperature is likely to be between 32-34°C on Monday and 31-33°C on Tuesday.
In the last 24 hours, widespread rains, with some heavy falls, were reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Punjab, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, eastern Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan, and Karachi.
