ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure continuous monitoring of oil consumption in the country amid rising regional tensions.
The directive came during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review petroleum reserves and supply in light of the evolving situation in the region.
During the session, the prime minister was briefed on current petroleum stocks and future requirements.
Officials informed him that the country currently holds adequate reserves of petroleum products and that arrangements have already been made to meet future demand.
The briefing also emphasized the importance of maintaining austerity measures to ensure efficient use of resources.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that consistent monitoring of oil consumption and reserves has helped prevent any crisis so far, adding that government measures aimed at providing relief to the public will continue.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Saudi Arabia in the coming days after receiving an invitation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to sources, the prime minister is expected to depart for Riyadh within the next 48 hours.
The visit comes at a crucial time, particularly after recent United States–Iran talks held in Islamabad, adding to its regional significance.
During the visit, Shehbaz Sharif is likely to hold meetings with the Saudi leadership to discuss key regional and international issues, as well as matters related to financial cooperation between the two countries.
