ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited lawmakers from all coalition parties to a lunch on Thursday, ahead of the expected presentation of the 26th constitutional amendment in the National Assembly.
Sources said that the meeting would take place at Parliament House at 2 pm, with invitations extended to all coalition lawmakers.
In a related development, the special parliamentary committee meeting on constitutional amendments has been rescheduled from 12:30 pm to 11:30 am on the same day.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) reached an agreement on constitutional amendments during a meeting in Karachi. This was confirmed by JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during a joint press conference.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman shared that both parties agreed on the proposed amendments, praising Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his role in reaching a consensus.
However, the JUI-F leader rejected the government's initial proposed amendments, calling them unacceptable, and stressed the importance of non-controversial amendments to unify the nation, constitution, and parliament.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari added that Maulana Fazlur Rehman is scheduled to meet Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday. He stated that the PML-N would be invited to support the JUI-F and PPP's final draft, noting that this agreement would serve as the foundation for further negotiations.
Bhutto Zardari emphasized that their goal is to address public issues rather than focusing on individual interests or political timing.
