LAHORE: Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that three parties –PML-N, PPP and JUI-F – have agreed on judicial reforms and other remaining issues would be discussed later.
Along with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N senior leader Ishaq Dar and other leaders after an important meeting at Jati Umrah in Lahore on Wednesday, Maulana Fazl said that they were moving forward with consensus.
Fazl said that he would also meet the PTI leadership in Islamabad tomorrow (Thursday) to create consensus on the issue.
Bilawal Bhutto on the occasion said that they were working to provide justice to the people of Pakistan. They hope that they would go towards presenting the amendment soon after consultation, he said.
Ishaq Dar said that the three parties have reached a consensus on judicial reform. He said that this would provide swift and transparent justice to the people.
Earlier, a meeting took place at Jati Umra, the residence of the Sharif brothers in Lahore, with key political figures in attendance, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Accoring to media reports, Nawaz Sharif had one-on-one meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman before Zardari's arrival. The Maulana presented a proposal to introduce constitutional amendments after October 25.
After the meeting with Nawaz, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif postponed the federal cabinet meeting called for approval of the constitutional amendment.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman and People's Party agreed to form a constitutional bench instead of a constitutional court.
The PML-N suggested to form a constitutional court first, and then to form a constitutional bench. the Judicial Parliamentary Committee approved the names of the judges.
We want the provisions of the Charter of Democracy to be implemented, Nawaz Sharif, adding that it is time to implement all the clauses of the Charter of Democracy.
Earlier on Tuesday, the JUI-F and PPP reached a consensus on the constitutional amendments during a meeting in Karachi, which was revealed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a joint press conference. Rehman praised the agreement with Bilawal but rejected the government’s initial amendment proposals, calling them unacceptable. He emphasized the need for non-controversial amendments, highlighting that a united voice is required for the nation, constitution, and parliament.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that efforts would be made to bring the PML-N on board with the draft agreed upon by the JUI-F and PPP, emphasizing that their consensus would lay the groundwork for future negotiations. He also stressed that the focus should be on addressing public concerns rather than pursuing personal interests or timing.
