Senator Irfan Siddiqui, the spokesperson for the government’s negotiation team, criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for failing to fulfill its commitment to present its demands in writing.
Irfan Siddiqui stated that PTI had promised on December 23 to submit written demands but, even after 22 days, has not followed through.
“They assured us on December 23 that their demands would be submitted in writing,” Siddiqui said, adding, “It has been 22 days, and we are still waiting. If they couldn’t deliver their demands in this time, it is not our responsibility.”
He pointed out that the negotiation committee had been formed on December 5, yet no written demands had been received. Siddiqui noted that PTI was expected to submit two demands to National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, but this did not happen.
“When we receive the demands, consultations will be held with the seven coalition parties,” he explained. “Each coalition party will then seek input from their leadership to form a collective stance on the demands.”
Siddiqui also underlined that responding to demands requires time. “A letter cannot be received and responded to on the same day,” he said. “If the demands are significant, we need to deliberate and reach a unified decision.”
He assured that although PTI has set a January 31 deadline, the government intends to provide a response before that date.
