ISLAMABAD: Election Tribunals have so far decided only 40 election petitions out of 334, said the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report issued on Friday.
The report said that only 11 per cent of election petitions have been settled down. It further said that the FAFEN has only identified just 377 petitions whereas information about 43 cases of Punjab could not have been obtained.
As per the Election Act, the tribunals have to decide pleas within 180 days and in many cases, the deadline has expired.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has recently constituted eight election tribunals for Punjab, however, no petitions could have been heard yet. Among the 40 petitions, which were decided, included four of National Assembly and the rest 36 of provincial assemblies.
The election tribunals in Balochistan have disposed of more than half of the cases as they have settled down 28 petitions out of 51.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the election tribunals have decided only four cases out of 42 whereas in Sindh merely six election petitions out of 86 have settled down.
In Punjab, only two cases out of 155 have been disposed of and on other hand, in Islamabad three pleas are under hearing.
A number of election petitions have been rejected on technical grounds. Among 40 cases , only three pleas have been accepted whereas 37 turned down.
