Karachi: The Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, said on Thursday that the under-construction Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge will be the longest bridge over the Indus River in Sindh. He was chairing a meeting to review the progress of the project.
Shah said the bridge will play a key role in boosting the economy and improving traffic flow between Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan.
Officials briefed him that the Sindh Works Department is building the 12.15 km-long bridge. The connecting road from Ghotki to the bridge is 10.4 km long, while the road to Kandhkot is 8.1 km. The Thull link road connected to the bridge stretches 4.5 km.
The chief minister was informed that construction of the approach roads has been completed, but work on the bridge itself is currently on hold due to flooding in the area.
Shah directed officials to restart construction in November once the floodwater recedes. He also instructed the home minister to ensure strict security measures at the site from November onwards.
It is worth noting that a temporary bridge at the site was recently washed away by heavy floodwater.
