Tehran: Iran has officially confirmed American airstrikes on its nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, with the Foreign Minister condemning the attacks as a grave violation of international law. This admission by Tehran further escalates tensions in the Middle East, following U.S. President Trump’s earlier claims of successful operations.
In a strong statement issued after American warplanes targeted the nuclear sites, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that the United States, by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations, had committed a “grave violation” of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Abbas Araghchi, via a statement released on social media, emphasized the “deeply regrettable and reprehensible” nature of “this morning’s events,” warning of their “lasting consequences.” He added,
“Every UN member should be concerned by this extremely dangerous, illegal, and criminal behavior.”
He also asserted that under the UN Charter, Iran reserves “all options to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people.”
These remarks follow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s earlier statement that the U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities were conducted in “full coordination with Israel.”
Early Sunday morning, U.S. military forces launched airstrikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. President Trump confirmed the operations via a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. Despite confirming the attacks, Iranian officials stated that the facilities had been evacuated beforehand, minimizing potential damage.
Iran’s confirmation is expected to intensify global concerns and deepen the diplomatic crisis already unfolding in the region.
