SHC upholds stay-order ordering uninterrupted internet access till elections

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court(SHC) has upheld the stay order to continue uninterrupted internet and mobile phone services across the country until the general elections.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi heard the petition against the repeated shutdown and interruption of internet service in the country, during which the court expressed its annoyance over the shutdown and interruption of internet service.

The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court said that if our internet does not work, what will work elsewhere, it seems that it will be fixed after the election.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till February 21 due to the absence of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority's counsel and the court has ordered to maintain the stay order regarding uninterrupted restoration of internet service across the country.

The court has also maintained the order to continue the mobile internet service without interruption.

PS-110’s independent candidate and rights activist Advocate Jibran Nasir had filed the petition in the SHC against the frequent suspension of internet services in the country ahead of the general elections.
