LAHORE: The mercury soared to 46°C in Lahore on the third day of Eid (June 9), marking one of the hottest days in recent history.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the last time such extreme heat was recorded was in 2007, when the maximum temperature at Lahore Airport hit 48°C. This year’s Eid temperature makes June 9 one of the hottest Eid days in 18 years.
The intense heatwave continues to grip most parts of the country.
The Met Office has forecasted: temperatures are forecasted to reach 44 degrees Celsius in Islamabad and Peshawar, 45 in Lahore, 36 in Quetta, and 34 in Karachi.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity and stay hydrated amid the ongoing heatwave.
Meanwhile a severe heatwave continues to grip most parts of the country.
Earlier, Dera Ghazi Khan and Jacobabad registered the highest temperatures at 49 degrees Celsius. Sargodha and Sibi also experienced extreme heat at 48 degrees while Gujranwala, Jhelum, Kasur, and Mandi Bahauddin recorded 47 degrees Celsius
