Christina Perri reveals how “Twilight” song ‘A Thousand Years’ become wedding classic

Discussing the song, which is featured in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1”, the singer revealed its backstory and how it became part of the franchise.

During her appearance on “SiriusXM's The Nikki & Brie Show” on Friday, Christina Perri reminisced about her 2011 track “A Thousand Years”. She described it as a deeply special story for her.

Christina Perri shared that she was a diehard fan of the Twilight” series, even calling herself "more of a Twihard." She recalled that the production team approached her for a song for the wedding scene, and she eagerly agreed. However, they ultimately chose the track for the credits instead. Perri had no objections, describing it as "still the coolest thing" that had ever happened to her, as the books and movies were her favorites.

Christina Perri revealed that the song was selected for radio play to promote the movie. Unexpectedly, fans instantly fell in love with the track. She shared that, as a result, the filmmakers decided to include a seven-minute version of “A Thousand Years” in the final film.

Christina Perri recalled working on the orchestral version of the track and recording a duet with her boyfriend at the time. After creating the new version, she believed that was the end of its journey.

However, she soon realized the song had a much deeper impact on Twilight” fans. On the podcast, she shared, "All of a sudden, this song is not so much about 'Twilight” anymore."

She stated that “the track became an anthem to which, "everybody's walking down the aisle to, everybody's doing their first dance to." The songstress continued that this is the track that "just keeps living its own life and evolving."

She also noted that over the next decade, "Everybody gets married to it, and everybody starts having babies." While “A Thousand Years” remains memorable for many fans, several scenes—especially the chemistry between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen—also stand out as some of the most unforgettable moments in the franchise.
