Chrissy Teigen talks about her painful abortion decision with late son Jack

Chrissy Teigen struggled to come to terms with the loss of her son, Jack, who passed away before birth. Speaking at a rally on Sunday, October 27, in support of Arizona’s Proposition 139 for abortion rights, the cookbook author shared her personal experience. Teigen revealed that the abortion process had felt so painless she hadn't realized when it happened.

In 2020, Chrissy Teigen lost her son Jack after experiencing pregnancy complications. In a clip from her recent speech shared by the news, Teigen remembered how her pregnancy with Jack had taken a sudden, tragic turn. “One thing that was hard for me was that I never experienced any pain in it so I never thought of it as being anything other than a miscarriage,” she said.

She claimed that a lot of stigma is attached to abortion. “Nobody wants to say abortion ... I didn’t even know I had one.” While receiving blood transfusions, Teigen had no idea that her baby’s life was in danger, challenging the common belief that abortion involves excruciating pain.

Teigen recalled her shock when her husband, John Legend, described to someone how “terrible” the abortion experience was and the struggles people endured afterward. When Legend shared the news with her, she was in disbelief. “I was like, ‘No f------ way. Really? No way.’ That day, my mind was blown,” Teigen remembered.

She realized then how frightening it was not to understand her own body during such a critical time. “I didn’t know what was happening to my body; how could others possibly empathize with our situation?” she added.

Teigen, who shares Luna (8), Miles (6), Esti (20 months), and Wren (15 months) with Legend, aims to help erase the stigma around abortion and amplify the voices of those who've faced similar situations. She emphasized her desire to spread the message that "abortion is healthcare."

During his October 23 appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Legend shared heartbreaking details about their miscarriage. He revealed that at 20 weeks, Teigen suffered a partial placenta abruption, causing the placenta to separate from the uterus wall prematurely. "She was miscarrying and bleeding out, and all these things were happening... Her life was in danger," he recounted.
