ISLAMABAD: According to recent data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA), car sales in Pakistan increased by 40.99 percent during the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2024-25 compared to the same period last year.
The data shows that 76,265 cars were sold during the reviewed months, compared to 54,091 units sold in the same months last year.
The breakup figures revealed that Honda sold 11,460 units of Civic and City during July-March 2024-25, compared to 8,514 units sold during the same period in 2023-24.
Sales of Toyota Corolla and Yaris cars increased by 48.92 percent, rising from 10,730 units to 15,980 units. Suzuki Swift’s sales also grew by 57.45 percent, surging from 3,586 units to 5,891 units this year.
Suzuki Cultus sales dropped to 1,984 units during the period under review, compared to 2,803 units sold during the same period last year. Similarly, Suzuki WagonR sales declined to 1,705 units, down from 2,652 units last year.
Suzuki Alto’s sales increased by 37.91 percent, rising from 22,683 units to 31,284 units this year. Meanwhile, Suzuki Bolan's sales surged to 3,168 units, up from 1,734 units during the same months last year.
In a separate development, authorities in the federal capital have sharply increased vehicle transfer fees for cars and motorcycles, effective April 14, 2025. For the first time in the country, they have also imposed transfer fees on electric vehicles (EVs).
Authorities have increased transfer fees for vehicles by as much as 300% to 1100%.
The authorities have raised the fee for transferring a 1000cc car by Rs1,200, bringing it to Rs2,750. For cars above 1000cc, the transfer fee has increased to Rs5,500, up from Rs2,000. The fee for cars above 1800cc has now reached Rs11,000, up from Rs3,000.
For the first time, authorities have introduced a transfer fee for electric vehicles (EVs).
EVs with a capacity of up to 50 kilowatts (kW) will incur a fee of Rs 2,500, while those between 50 kW and 100 kW will be charged Rs5,500. EVs exceeding 100 kW will face a fee of Rs 10,000.
