Washington: A high-level meeting focused on Kashmir mediation is set to take place this Friday between U.S. officials and a senior Pakistani leader, U.S. State Department.
During a press conference, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce announced that discussions on mediation related to Kashmir will take place in a meeting with a Pakistani leader on Friday. The spokesperson stated that the U.S. knows how to proceed on this matter and is looking forward to this important meeting.
It is also noted that Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on July 25. This will be the first official meeting between Ishaq Dar and Rubio.
According to Tammy Bruce, the U.S. State Department spokesperson, preparations for the meeting are complete, and she will be present alongside senior officials from both sides.
This meeting is taking place at a time when India’s border aggression has not decreased, and New Delhi has unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, refusing to participate in neutral negotiations regarding water sharing.
Media reports suggest that in this meeting, issues such as Kashmir, border tensions, and other bilateral matters, as well as trade and economic cooperation, are likely to be discussed.
It should be noted that, President Trump had previously described the Kashmir issue as a long-standing and unresolved conflict, offering mediation. Pakistan welcomed this offer immediately, while India rejected the proposal and has continued to avoid negotiations.
