WhatsApp is reportedly working on a major visual upgrade to its in-chat interface, introducing a new “Liquid Glass” design language aimed at modernizing the app’s overall appearance.
According to WABetaInfo the update will bring noticeable changes to key elements of the chat screen, including the message input area and the top navigation bar within conversations.
One of the key highlights of the redesign is a new floating chat input bar which will replace the current fixed layout. It is expected to feature a translucent, frosted-glass effect that blends with the chat background, creating a more layered visual experience.
The top section of chats is also expected to be redesigned with a transparent interface and subtle blur effects, allowing wallpapers and messages to remain partially visible behind UI elements. Even navigation features such as the “jump to latest message” button are likely to adopt the same glass-like styling.
Reports suggest that the updated interface is not yet available to beta testers, although it has been activated internally for testing. This indicates that development is still ongoing.
The redesign appears to be inspired by Apple’s recent “Liquid Glass” design approach introduced in newer iOS versions, which focuses on depth, transparency, and fluid visuals. Early traces of these changes were first observed in late 2025 beta builds through minor UI adjustments.
Meta Platforms is expected to roll out the update gradually, though no official release timeline has been announced. It also remains unclear whether the new design will be limited to iOS or extended to Android devices.
