Meta has pulled back from its controversial plan to shut down the VR version of Horizon Worlds, keeping the platform alive for users to explore, create, and connect in fully immersive 3D spaces.

Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s CTO, confirmed that while the company will now focus development efforts on the mobile version of Horizon Worlds, the VR app will remain accessible “for the foreseeable future.”
Bosworth emphasized that this move is in response to passionate users who expressed the importance of keeping these 3D worlds alive.
Horizon Worlds in VR allows users to step into a universe where digital and physical realities converge from collaborative events and social hangouts to fully interactive, custom-built worlds.
Despite recent setbacks in Meta’s Reality Labs, including layoffs and the closure of some VR projects like Supernatural, Horizon Worlds remains a key part of Meta’s long-term vision for the metaverse.
Bosworth also clarified that the metaverse is far more than just VR: it’s a blend of augmented reality, immersive spaces, and digital layers integrated into the real world.
“The metaverse is already here,” he said, “it’s just not evenly distributed yet.” By maintaining VR access to Horizon Worlds, Meta continues to offer a portal into the 3D future, where users can explore, create, and experience a digital universe unlike any other.
