The Pakistan team is scheduled to depart for Ireland tomorrow, but Amir will not be joining them. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is optimistic that Amir’s visa will be granted shortly.
Once his visa process is finalized, Amir will depart for Ireland on the first available flight.
Amir, along with Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, was banned from international cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in a spot-fixing case in 2010.
Amir also served a three-month custodial sentence in young offenders institutes in Feltham and Dorset.
After making his comeback in 2016, the 31-year-old played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where the Men in Green triumphed over their arch-rivals India in the final by 180 runs.
Amir’s unforgettable spell in the final, where he took out India’s top order by dismissing Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli, is still remembered.
However, the left-arm bowler announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 28 in December 2020, stating that he could no longer play under the management and that he was being “tortured mentally”.
But Amir reversed his retirement decision prior to the recent series against New Zealand and was included in the national squad.
The Pakistan team is scheduled to play three T20Is in Ireland, followed by four in England. After the series in England, Pakistan will depart for the United States to participate in the T20 World Cup.
