KARACHI, LAHORE, RAWALPINDI: Today, across Pakistan, the sacred day of Ashura—the tenth of Muharram—is being observed with deep reverence and solemnity.
The day commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his loyal companions at Karbala, highlighting their unwavering stand for justice and righteousness.
The observance involves large processions and mourning rituals held in cities and towns nationwide, reflecting the collective grief and respect for the sacrifices made. Participants participate in mourning ceremonies, recitations, and processions to honor the memory of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.
Security Arrangements and Restrictions
Given the significance of the day, authorities have implemented comprehensive security protocols to prevent any untoward incidents. Last week, the Ministry of Interior authorized deployment of Pakistan Army and civil armed forces across the country to reinforce security during Muharram.
Additionally, mobile and internet services were temporarily suspended in various regions to maintain order and safety.
Processions in Major Cities
Karachi: The main procession commenced from Nishtar Park after morning Majalis. It followed its traditional route through the city, passing through key areas like Saddar, Empress Market, and Regal Market, before concluding at Bargah Hussainian Iranian Kaharadar in the evening. Authorities have also imposed a ban on pillion riding and closed MA Jinnah Road to traffic to facilitate the procession.
Lahore: The central mourning procession started from Nisar Haveli at Mochi Gate and proceeded through its customary route towards Karbala Gaamay Shah, where Shaam-e-Ghareeban was held in the evening, marking a solemn gathering.
Rawalpindi: The main "Zuljinnah" procession began from Imam Bargah Colonel Maqbool Hussain and concluded at Qadeemi Imam Bargah after Maghrib prayers.
To ensure security, police deployed approximately 5,500 personnel across the city under the direction of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak.
