The Punjab Transport Department has finished the feasibility study for the Yellow Line Electric Transit Project in Lahore, a key step toward improving public transport in the city.
This project, initiated under the directions of the Chief Minister, aims to provide affordable and eco-friendly travel options for the city's growing population.
The proposed Yellow Line will cover 24 kilometers, running from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura. Once it's up and running, it's expected to serve around 130,000 passengers every day, helping reduce traffic on major roads and offering a more efficient way to travel.
The project is estimated to cost PKR 80 billion, and the suggested timeline for its completion is from September 2025 to June 2026. The plan has been sent to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat for approval.
Meanwhile, work is also in progress on the Blue Line and Purple Line transit systems, all part of the government's vision to create a connected urban rail network. These projects aim to ease traffic congestion, cut down on pollution, and make commuting more convenient for residents.
The Yellow Line will use 20 electric train sets, which will be imported from China once the Punjab Cabinet and ECNEC give their approval.
